Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) includes mediation, arbitration, and settlement negotiations. The annual collegiate alternative dispute resolution competition was created to promote greater interest among college students in legal negotiations. Specifically, our aim was to provide a forum for college students to practice their ADR skills. We hope to inspire prospective law students to begin thinking of ADR as a viable option to resolving disputes between people. Generally, people think of litigation as the only way of resolving issues between people, and do not know about the power of mediation, arbitration, or negotiations. A secondary aim of our competition is to leave a lasting impression among competitors such that they will consider ADR when they begin their practice as attorneys.
